Eudora Community & Aquatic Center

Eudora, KS

The City of Eudora’s existing municipal swimming pool was well-used but failing, due to water leakage problems and an inability to maintain water quality. Public indoor recreation space was also lacking, with the city relying on outside agencies to provide space. Scheduling conflicts were a large problem.  Thus, BG Consultants was commissioned to program and design an aquatic and community center facility for local residents in the City of Eudora. The new facility is located on the same site as the existing, but has many enhanced features that appeal to a wider community base.

The community center, totaling 23,900 square feet, contains community meeting rooms, a full kitchen, offices, and an 11,600 square foot gymnasium for basketball and volleyball recreation. The gym’s collegiate-size basketball court engages youths and adults with multiple leagues and tournaments. Adjacent is a fitness center with treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bicycles, a weight machine, and plasma televisions.

The 8,000 square foot municipal pool has a concrete deck and features several amenities, including:

  • A lazy river (70’ x 5’ swim area with water current)
  • Zero-depth entry
  • 75’ x 45’ lap pool
  • 105’ water slide with chute

Each water feature presented unique design challenges due to differing hydraulic pressure and demand requirements.

BG Consultants worked closely with the City of Eudora and the Parks and Recreation Commission from initial concept through project administration. Preliminary meetings with community leaders and city meetings were critical to determine appropriate scope and budget. An initial rendering of the project was created to help city officials successfully pass a tax measure to fund the facility's construction.
