Leavenworth City Hall HVAC Piping Replacement

Leavenworth City Hall HVAC Piping Replacement

Leavenworth, KS
United States

The City of Leavenworth City Hall Existing HVAC system utilizes a two-pipe hydronic hot and chilled water system for heating and cooling of the building, mostly routed through the unfinished basement of the building with risers up to individual pieces of HVAC equipment. Throughout the life of the building, multiple projects had replaced portions of the system or added to the system, resulting in a mixture of piping materials, ages and conditions, and the system experienced periodic leaks. The pipe insulation in the unfinished basement had been damaged over the years by impacts and moisture and was no longer effective. The City decided that the best approach to keeping their HVAC systems in operation in the long term was to replace and reinsulate the piping system.

BG Consultants was selected to design the piping system replacement. This included extensive field investigation to verify and update existing available documentation, preparing design drawings and specifications, bidding services, and limited construction contract administration.

The piping system was replaced in phases and was closely scheduled and coordinated with City staff to minimize disruption to City Hall operations and occupant comfort.
